CLPR conducted the North Regional Rounds of ConQuest 2018 on 1st September 2018 at National Law University, Delhi.

The morning rains of Delhi did not seem to deter the students to participate in ConQuest: over 87 teams from diverse disciplines and States in the North zone registered for the quiz. We saw participation from premiere institutions including: IIT, Roorkee; BITS , Pilani; NLU, Delhi; Miranda House; RGNUL, Patiala; Jamia Millia Islamia; Hindu CollegeAshoka UniversityRamjas CollegeLady Shri Ram CollegeDelhi School of EconomicsCampus Law Centre.

The written preliminary round was highly competitive; the students had to answer twenty questions on topics ranging from Indian Constitution, history, politics, law and current affairs.

Teams from Hindu College, Ramjas College, two teams from CLC, DU, NLU-D secured their spot in the regional finals. A mixed team from USLLS GGSIPU was selected to the stage rounds.

Raghav Chakravarthy, quiz master from Walnut Knowledge Solutions, started the regional final rounds. After two rounds of potpourri, Ramjas College and CLC, DU teams lead the score points.

This year’s edition of ConQuest introduced a new round ‘List It’: 9 options to a question were presented in a grid; the students had to identify 6 right answers. The range of questions included from correctly identifying the Constituent Assembly members, UN Secretary Generals to buildings designed by Edwin Lutneys. This round was the audience’s favourite, it kept them immersed throughout.

The last two rounds were on the buzzer and were crucial in deciding which teams would fly down to Bengaluru to compete in the National Finals. CLC, DU team took advantage of this and pressed the buzzer several times to work out the answers correctly. It helped them match their score with Ramjas College.

At the end of 5 rounds Ramjas College and CLC, DU tied and Hindu College stood third. The quiz master presented the tie breaker question; as soon as the slide with the question was displayed, Ramjas College took the chance and worked out the right answer within seconds only to secure the first place.

Ashish Kr. Singh and Abhishek Paliwal from Ramjas College stood first, for the second consecutive year. Aditya Singh and Ankur Agraj from CLC, DU came second. Karthik Panigrahi and Saurabh from Hindu College secured the third position.

ConQuest 2018 was presented by the Centre for Law and Policy Research, Bengaluru. The South Asia Regional Office of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom supported the quiz. Mr. Arvind P. Datar, Sr. Advocate, Supreme Court of India sponsored the prizes and trophies. ThePrint was our digital media partner.
