Definition

In this Part, unless the context otherwise requires, the expression “State” does not include the State of Jammu and Kashmir.

In this Part, unless the context otherwise requires, the expression “State” means a State for the time being specified in Part I of the First Schedule.

Article 152, Constitution of India 1950

In this Part, unless the context otherwise requires, the expression “State” means a State specified in Part A of the First Schedule.

Draft Article 128 (Article 152) was debated on 30th May 1949. It specified the meaning of the expression ‘State’ used in Part VI.

The Draft Article was accepted without debate and adopted by the Assembly on 30th May 1949. It was later amended by the Constitution (7th Amendment) Act, 1956.
