Debate Summary

Draft Article 281, Draft Constitution of India (1948)

In this Part, unless the context otherwise requires, the expression "State" means a State for the time being specified in Part I of the First Schedule.

Draft Article 281 (Article 308, Constitution of India 1950) was debated on 7 September, 1949. It provided the definition of “State” for Part XII of the Draft Constitution.

The Chairman of the Drafting Committee proposed to substitution the Draft Article with a new one that had a few language changes made to it.

The motion was adopted without any debate or discussion and the Draft Article was added to the Constitution on the same day.
