The Indian Constituent Assembly received thousands of petitions offering feedback from individual citizens and diverse groups, including religious organizations, trade associations, caste bodies, and other civil society groups, on India’s new Constitution. These petitions reveal an important but underexplored dimension of public engagement in constitution-making. The archive will ultimately include nearly 3,000 petitions and related documents. It has been developed in collaboration with the Pluralist Agreement and Constitutional Transformation (PACT) project, with support from the Arts and Humanities Research Council, UK.
