A 389-member body responsible for drafting India’s Constitution.

I shall now put the amendments to vote. The question is: “That in amendment No. 2 above, to the proposed article 282, the following proviso be added:- ‘Provided further that no person shall be eligible for appointment to any of the superior public services and posts in connection with the affairs of the Union unless he is thoroughly conversant with any other regional language of India besides the National language of India.'” The amendment was negatived.
