CAP 48.5

Everybody is feeling the invigorating breath of the breeze that is blowing in this Independent country but our men who abound in rural areas are more apprehensive then ever. They are afraid of the zamindars, lambardars, patwaris and what not. I had the ill-luck to visit so many villages but everywhere the feel-ing of despondence greeted me. A village of U.P. can boast of an arrogant thakur who though a retired judicial officer, does not hesitate to threaten our men with his gun, if they will endeavour to adopt some better cal-ling. How shameful! Men like Sri Sampurananand are fond of issuing statements that are miles away from the virtue we name “Truth”. All the movements that the down-trodden intend to start to claim their rights have been labelled as sub-communist by this minister. In fact, these men are making a bug-bear of an “ism” that has a remote chance to flourish in this country. It does not mean that the possibility can at any time be ruled out. Discontentment exploitation, illiteracy and denial of rights are the pals which invite that kind of “ism” in any country. Try to banish them and communism will fade away.
